Membership terms for locksmiths

The contract between Locksmith100 and a verified locksmith: the checks, £29 a month plus VAT for the badge, credits to reply, and how we rank. You accept them when you tick the box on the application.

Draft, under legal review. These terms are being checked by a UK solicitor and are not yet in force. The operator's name, address and contact details are placeholders.

Draft of 26 October 2026.

1. Who we are and what this is

1.1

Locksmith100 (https://www.locksmith100.co.uk) is run by [Operator legal name] (trading as Locksmith100), [registered address] (“we”, “us”). Contact: [contact email].

1.2

These terms are the contract between us and the locksmith business that applies to become a verified member (“you”). You accept them when you tick the box on the application and again when you first sign in.

1.3

You join as a business, not as a consumer. Consumer-only rights (for example the 14-day cancellation period) do not apply.

1.4

Locksmith100 is a directory. We introduce drivers to locksmiths. We are not a locksmith, we do not employ you, and we are not a party to any job you do. Your contract for each job is with the customer.

2. Getting verified, and staying verified

2.1

Before you can reply to any request, you must pass our checks:

  • Photo ID: Passport or driving licence, matched to a selfie on a video call.
  • Public liability insurance: At least £1m cover, certificate in date.
  • Basic DBS certificate: Issued in the last 3 years.
  • Test call: We call as a customer and check the price and manner.
  • MLA membership (optional): Recorded when held; shown as a badge.
2.2

We may re-check at any time, including random test calls. You must tell us within 7 days if your insurance lapses or changes, or if anything would change your DBS certificate.

2.3

Your profile shows a “Verified” badge while you are a member and pass the checks. The badge means you passed these checks, and nothing more: it is not our guarantee of your work. You must not describe it as anything else.

2.4

You must not run a call centre or a network of “local” listings. One business, its own phone numbers, its own website.

3. Membership fee (verified badge)

3.1

Membership costs £29 a month plus VAT, paid monthly in advance by card through Stripe.

3.2

Founding members: the first 30 members pay no membership fee for their first 3 months, and get 150 free credits a month in that time. We remind you 7 days before your free months end and billing starts.

3.3

You can cancel at any time in the app. Membership runs to the end of the month you have paid for, then stops. We do not refund part-months, except under 8.4.

3.4

We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email of any change to the fee. You can cancel before it takes effect.

3.5

If a payment fails, we try again and remind you every 3 days. After 7 days unpaid, your profile shows as listed, not verified, until you pay.

4. Credits

4.1

Replying to a customer's quote request costs credits. One credit costs £1 plus VAT. You buy credits in packs through Stripe; bigger packs carry bonus credits. The current packs and the credits each kind of job costs (plus a surcharge for “right now” requests) are shown in the app before you buy or reply.

4.2

Credits are spent when you send a reply, whether or not the customer chooses you.

4.3

Credits are a prepaid right to reply to requests. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred and are not a deposit. Free credits (founding or promotional) are used before paid credits and do not roll over to the next month. [Solicitor: confirm whether paid credits can expire, e.g. 12 months after purchase.]

4.4

Taps on the WhatsApp and Call buttons on your profile and the home map are recorded but not charged at present. We will give you 30 days' notice before charging for them.

5. Replies and requests

5.1

At most 3 locksmiths can reply to any one request. Once 3 have replied, the request closes to new replies.

5.2

We send requests to verified members whose coverage and services match. A request stays open for replies for a set time that depends on urgency (currently 15 minutes for “right now”, 3 hours for “today”, 24 hours for planned jobs).

5.3

We do not guarantee any number of requests, contacts, replies chosen or jobs. How much work comes through Locksmith100 depends on demand, your coverage, your prices and your reviews.

5.4

Your reply is your offer to the customer. Quote honestly and include every charge the customer must pay (call-out, VAT, parts). Do not change the price on arrival unless the job turns out to be different from what the customer described, and explain why before you start.

6. Refunds of credits

6.1

Credits for a reply come back to your balance automatically when:

  • The customer doesn't answer the phone or messages within 24 hours.
  • The request turns out to be fake, a duplicate, or outside the postcode districts it was sent to.
  • The customer cancels before choosing anyone.
6.2

For anything else, ask in the app within 7 days of the reply. We decide fairly and tell you why.

6.3

Refunds are made in credits, not money, except under 8.4 or where the law requires.

7. Your conduct

7.1

You must: hold valid insurance; act lawfully and safely; check the customer owns the vehicle (or has the owner's authority) before opening it or cutting or programming a key; carry ID and show it on request; and treat customers fairly.

7.2

Customer details. When a customer chooses you, you get their name and number. You may use them only for that job and its aftercare. No marketing, no passing them on. For that use, you are a separate controller under UK GDPR and responsible for it.

7.3

Reviews. Only customers who contacted you through Locksmith100 can review you. You must not write, buy or commission reviews of yourself or anyone else, offer anything in return for a review, or ask only the customers you think are happy to review you. We publish good and bad reviews alike. You can reply to a review once, and report it if you think it breaks our review rules.

7.4

Our badge on your site. You may show the “Verified on Locksmith100” badge on your own website while you are a member, linking to your profile. Remove it within 7 days of leaving.

8. Suspension and ending membership

8.1

When a check fails, we suspend you. If any check fails or lapses (for example your insurance expires, your DBS certificate is over 3 years old, or a test call goes badly), we hide your profile and stop sending you requests at once, and tell you why. While suspended you cannot reply, your credits are kept, and your monthly fee is paused.

8.2

Your profile comes back when you put the problem right (for example by uploading a new certificate). If it is not put right within 60 days, we may end your membership.

8.3

We may also suspend or end your membership at once for serious misconduct: dishonest pricing, fake reviews, misuse of customer data, threats or violence, or a credible safety complaint. We will tell you the reason and let you respond.

8.4

If we end your membership for no fault of yours, we refund the unused part of the month and any unused paid credits.

8.5

You can leave at any time (see 3.3). Unused credits are lost when you leave, except under 8.4. [Solicitor to confirm.]

9. How we rank you

Verified members are shown before free (unverified) listings. Among verified members, we order by match to the request (coverage, service, availability), then reviews and reply speed. Paying more does not move you up. If we ever sell paid placement, it will be labelled “Sponsored”, will never put a free listing above a verified one, and we will tell you 30 days before it starts.

10. Liability

10.1

We are not responsible for jobs you do, payments between you and customers, or what customers say or do.

10.2

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or anything else the law does not allow us to exclude.

10.3

Otherwise, our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the fees and paid credits you paid us in that period. We are not liable for lost profit, lost business or indirect loss.

10.4

You will cover our losses from claims made against us because of your work or your breach of these terms.

11. General

11.1

We may change these terms by giving you 30 days' notice by email. If you don't agree, you can leave before the change takes effect.

11.2

Our privacy notice explains how we handle your personal data, and the cookies page the one cookie that keeps you signed in.

11.3

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
