Use the key blade to get in
Most fobs hide a metal blade. It opens the driver’s door even when the remote is dead.
Change the battery
Usually a CR2032 or CR2025, under a small clip or screw. Note which way up the old one sat.
Try the spare fob
If the spare works, the problem is the first fob, not the car.
Look at the buttons and case
Worn rubber buttons and cracked cases are cheap to replace and often fix it.
Get it reprogrammed or replaced
If a new battery doesn’t help, the fob may need reprogramming or a new board. An auto locksmith does this at the car.

Will the car start if the fob is dead?
Usually yes. Most cars read the key’s chip with no battery at all; on keyless cars, hold the fob against the start button or the marked spot on the steering column.

Can I program a key fob myself?
